Market garden cultivation
We need various plants/seeds: artichoke, beetroot, carrot, turnip, onion, chinese cabbage, cabbage, courgette, spinach, lettuce, melon, watermelon, leek, pumpkin, tomato, bean, peas and potato.
Fruit cultivation
Ideally we would like to have whole plants. It is possible that certain travelers can bring them with them directly, allowing collections of trees to grow into orchards. This can be done on a bigger scale by taking cuttings once one or two trees are established.
Pears, apples, peaches, prunes, apricots, citrus fruits, cherry trees and kiwi fruits.
We also need tools especially tools for transplanting trees.
These lists are not restrictive because the climate of Madagascar is similar to the one of France, this allows most types of fruit or vegetables to acclimatise and grow.
Lifestock rearing
The most important thing for successfully rearing animals is plenty of animal fodder. This in turn requires the cultivation of radish, beetroot and clover.
a Your participation
PARTICIPATION mainly encompasses voluntary service, principally in France. People wishing to give a little of their time will make a big difference. Voluntary work is usually during your free time or as a work experience activities incude: organising exhibitions, organising shows, meals, athletics tournaments, researching sponsors, administrative activities, communication, raising awareness of the development...
If your action is organized within an association with a non lucrative goal (school co-operative, association of student parents, sport club, etc) in the framework of educating people as to the development or international solidarity, AMADEA would like to be the association partner.
PARTICIPATION, voluntary service can also be done in Madagascar
People that wish to give their time or carry out training in Madagascar must send us a CV and an email indicating the expectations and availability. In order not to weigh down the finances and personnel of amadea the volunteer must be autonomous and take charge of their trip expenses, insurance and travel. A lodge with local conditions can eventually be proposed.
a The main causes of poverty
-The lack of Education.
-Malnutrition
-The poor access to finances needed in order to acquire sources of production (land, crop, tools)
*EDUCATION
We try to find sponsors for the salary of teachers. who are often in schools that are spread over a large age group(meaning teachers teach several levels of classes: it is not rare that a teacher will have to teach every age group). We equip the schools with educational equipment, school supplies and books.
*THE STRUGGLE AGAINST MALNUTRITION
Other countries are already taking steps regarding educational nutritional and hygiene but for this to have an effect, it is necessary for the population to diversify its nutrition. It is therefor necessary to persuade people to produce foods that are not necessarily part of their diet or that are not easily available. This means they are not used to producing them. In this respect, we constantly educate peasants and promote market garden cultivation, fruit cultivation without forgetting traditional animal rearing.
*AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
We have special financial status with weak interest rates(12% instead of the 36% of the market. These interest rates help with management expenses). After experiencing some difficulties in the recovery of the credit that was granted, we will grive the money to groups of women concerning projects that generate income in turn for the groups.
